How does the Mobile Builder work?

How does the Mobile Builder communicate with the backend?
The Mobile Builder ships with a standardized OData/REST interface out of the box, integrated into the existing security mechanisms of the SAP ecosystem.
What is required for deployment?
A transport request. No additional hardware, no middleware, no external platform required.
Does the Mobile Builder run entirely inside the SAP system?
Yes. It consists of Designer and Runtime, a shared UI5 library and an ABAP backend, and runs entirely inside the customer’s SAP system. No external hosting, no Node server at runtime.
How is a finished app delivered?
Das Backend erzeugt aus dem Runtime-Template und Ihrem App-Modell eine native BSP-Application und hängt sie an einen Transport-Request. Auf Wunsch wird die App zusätzlich im Fiori Launchpad registriert.

Which apps can be built with the Mobile Builder?
Any Fiori/SAPUI5 apps meant to make processes in the SAP system more efficient, more mobile or more user-friendly. Without frontend development, without complexity, without waiting.
What programming skills are required?
ABAP.
Which devices are supported, and do you have to install anything?
No, no additional app installation is needed. All you need is an HTML5-capable standard browser (SAP recommends Google Chrome). That way the apps run on all common devices: industrial tablets, handheld scanners and smartphones. The interfaces are Fiori-based and optimized for gloves and scanners.
Operation and Rollout
Can several people work on one app at the same time?
Yes. The Designer supports real-time multi-user editing. A view currently being edited is locked; others see it read-only with a note on who is editing it.
Can I restore an earlier version?
Yes. The version history records changes traceably and lets you roll back to an earlier state.
How do you start a new app?
Directly in the SAP system as an empty app — name, package and transport are in place from the start. You then build it in the Designer by drag and drop, without a line of JavaScript.

The Mobile Builder is based on SAPUI5 and ABAP and evolves automatically with SAP’s technology standards.
How secure is the Mobile Builder?
The Mobile Builder is as secure as your SAP system. It is fully integrated into the SAP ecosystem and uses existing security mechanisms, role and authorization concepts, and compliance standards.
